Hi, everyone! Happy Saturday!
I returned last week from a crazy fast trip through France and England. Well, mostly, we went to Paris and London, but we did visit Versailles, and we took the Eurostar (aka the Chunnel) from Paris to London and back, so we saw a bit of the countryside before and after we traveled beneath the English Channel. (Yes, the Chunnel is as cool as it sounds. It took us a little over 2 hours to get from Paris to London. And it was so smooth!)
I plan to post the many pictures we took on our journeys in a portfolio on the website in the coming weeks in case you’re interested in those, and I hope to blog about a few of our experiences that I think you might find interesting. So, stay tuned…
But first, let’s talk about the latest news and goings on in the world of authordom.
First…Â Covered in Darkness is live on Barnes & Noble. The lovely people over at Barnes & Noble spoke with me about releasing Covered to Nook readers a couple of weeks early, and I jumped at the chance to maybe gain some exposure to Nook readers that I wouldn’t otherwise get. You don’t have to own a Nook to read Covered early. You can download the free Nook app on any smart device or computer.
For those of you who simply choose not to read on a Nook, that’s totally okay. Covered in Darkness is releasing in just over a week on all platforms! That’s not long at all!! I’m so excited!!
Second… Speaking of the Covered in Darkness launch… I’ve got some amazing surprises coming your way! How about a week (5 days) of giveaways? I’ve got some amazing prizes set aside for the Covered launch week. I’ve got a brand new Kindle Fire to give away, and I just might put my entire library of books on it before I send it to the winner. I’ve got some gift cards to hand out. And I’ve got signed paperbacks of any book you want. So, starting August 1, come back to the blog to look for details.
Third… You know how when you read a book, and even when it has a fabulous and satisfying ending, but you still want more? Well, you’re not going to have to wait long for the next book in the In Darkness series. Shot in Darkness (an action-packed novella) is complete and ready to release twenty-eight days after Covered in Darkness.
I think three things is enough for today. But how about a Q&A? If you have any questions — anything at all — about the books releasing, what’s coming next, what I had for breakfast… Ask away in the comments. I’ll check in throughout the day and later tonight to answer everything.
Hope you have an amazing Saturday!
Hi Heather! Just first off, you are anazingly talented and I adore your work! Here are my questions: 1. Are we getting a early excerpt of Shot in Darkness, or just the real ease on te day? 2. I’m a novel writer too (or trying to be) and I was curious, in words, what is your longest book and at how many words? 3. Of you have any pieces of advice for aspiring writers?
Hey, Harlie!! Thank you for stopping by and for being such a dedicated reader!
1. You can obtain an excerpt of Shot in Darkness by going to my online store. The excerpt is free. Unfortunately, because Shot in Darkness is a novella, the excerpt won’t be as long as some of the other excerpts, but I “think” it’s longer than the excerpt included in the back of Covered in Darkness, but I can’t remember. You can check out that excerpt by clicking here: https://heathersunseri.com/store/ebooks/#store-item=59579002cca91813fcb2fdc8
2. I think my longest book is probably Mindspeak at 96k words. Though I think there have been others that have gotten close to that number. Exposed might have been 93k. I’m actually trying to write shorter lengths these days because they are easier to edit, but I’m not very good at writing shorter.
3. My biggest advice for aspiring writers.. Read a lot and write a lot!! Tell a good story. Get a good editor. Never stop learning the craft and improving on how you produce your art. Also, always remember why you love writing.
Who is Romeo?? Just kidding 🙂
So looks like this was your first foray into romantic suspense coming from the YA paranormal world. Did you enjoy the switch and plan to write more in the RS genre??
Romeo. Romeo. Romeo. How I love thee.
I very much loved the switch from YA to Adult. I loved writing in the YA genre, but my favorite genre to read and write has always been adult romantic thrillers/suspense. I plan to write many more novels in this genre.
Having said that, I also still hope to write at least one more Mindspeak novel from Jack’s and Lexi’s points of view. It’s just a matter of figuring out when to fit that in.
I’ve never told you this, but I actually read the Emerge series first as a recommendation from my Kindle, and thus, became a Sunseri Groupie! Do you plan to continue the Darkness series in any way after the new releases? How do you imagine a character such as Romeo or Sandra from Mindspeak? Are they loosely based on actual people? Somehow,I’m not finished with both the Mindspeak or Darkness characters and hope you aren’t either. Oh, and other than reviews and recs, how can we promote your books?
Hi, Linda!! These are fantastic questions!!! I’m so happy you found me and became a “groupie!”
1. Yes the In Darkness series will continue with a 5th novel. And you’ll see why a 5th novel is needed once you read Shot in Darkness. I very much love writing Declan and Brooke, and hope to write many more novels for them. But a 5th is already in the works.
2. Romeo is 100% a figment of my imagination. Sandra, on the other hand, was inspired by a couple of people I once knew.
3. The best way to promote my books is 1)to spread the word by telling friends to read them; 2)always share the news of new releases or share things I share on social media; and 3)just generally keep talking about my books when you have opportunities to share books you love with others. Word of mouth is an author’s best marketing friend!
